My friend Ted Hall, one of the most talented film/music sound mixer geniuses in the business, passed away on July 26th. Ted supervised and engineered dozens of feature film projects for me over the years and should get 99.9% of the credit for the way these projects, dvds, laserdiscs,etc turned out. He worked on almost all of my MGM projects, Paramount Paramount for me and others and for many more over the years. He will be sorely missed, not just professionally but personally and the world has lost an audio genius and amazing human being at too young an age. If you have a dvd of a movie and it sounds good at home, Ted gets a lot of the credit. He,under the tutelage of Bruce Botnick, was instrumental in changing how home video sounded.

My Brother Ted Hall
Thank you for your tribute to Ted. I miss my brother so much. We were very close as children and shared many interests -- and always laughing. I introduced him to the music of Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan and other greats and encouraged him to pick up the guitar when he was a teenager. I remember his first sound effects job trying to get the sound of galloping hooves. He learned that the polo ponies exercising in Burbank didn't make that clip-clop sound. Coconuts finally had to be used! I listened to The Fents practice and marveled at his and Adam's talent. I was so proud of all that he accomplished and loved the kind, gentle person he was. I don't know what to do without his humor for the rest of my life.

Hello all who knew Ted Hall,
I wss saddened to hear that Ted Hall had passed. I was just thinking of him earlier this year. I looked him up online and discovered he was an accomplished studio wizard. I am a fellow Oxy grad and musician. Back in the early 80's I was in awe of Ted's talent as a guitarist and composer. He was unbelievably humble about his abilities and always praiseworthy of my piano playing. I remember his example as I encounter students and other musicians to this day. Ted: quiet, unassuming, KILLER guitarist (Wha' happened with that? Long story, I am sure...), ALWAYS a NICE guy. Rest in Peace old Music-Quad mate. My sincere sympathies to his family and to all who miss him.

I was looking at Ted's CV at imdb.com and the first thing listed is a Doors at the Hollywood Bowl show. I remember seeing him toy with that video when I visited him at Bruce Botnick's studio in West Hollywood. That was probably last time I spoke to him. While talking to me, he ran around the place, patching this cord, turning this knob. The guy could multi-task effortlessly.
Pretty interesting work was being done at that studio. He fell into a good career there. Great pay, but crazy hours it seemed at the time. Oh man, RIP my brother.
